Samara Centre

The Samara Centre for Democracy has been providing insights into our political system for decades. And in the last few years they have been developing podcasts you can use in the classroom.

The first series, Humans of the House, is a collection of exit interviews from twelve former Members of Parliament that takes you through the process of becoming an MP, what it is really like on the Hill, and what is life like after leaving office. It is an engaging, personal and candid look at the life of a politician.

The second series is Group Chat, which is just what the name says: a chat with experts on various topics including the notwithstanding clause, how to improve democratic participation, and the impact of politics on diaspora communities.

SSENC has worked with the Samara Centre to create a collection of lesson plans you can use in your classroom to explore these podcasts with your students. Whether you are teaching civics, law, political science, or even careers and life management classes, you can find something that connects with your curriculum. Some episodes address specific content areas related to politics, but all address the human experience of working in the public arena. These lesson plans are flexible to allow you to tailor them to your classroom needs.
