Applications are due January 31, 2024 for the Juno Beach Centre Summer Institute and Battlefield Tour 2024.
SSENC is pleased to advise teachers about the Juno Beach Centre Association and EF Educational Tours invitation to Canadian educators to apply for the Juno Beach Centre Summer Institute and Battlefield Tour 2024.
Educators from across Canada now have the opportunity to apply to participate in this immersive professional development battlefield tour from July 29 – August 5, 2024. Participants will visit Canadian First and Second World War memorial sites, cemeteries, museums across France and Belgium, gaining first-hand knowledge of Canada’s participation in these global conflicts.
The eight-day tour includes visits to Canadian battlefields at Ypres, Vimy Ridge, Dieppe, the D-Day landing beaches, Falaise Gap, and, of course, the Juno Beach Centre.
In the months before their departure, teachers will participate in several professional development webinars that will prepare them to connect their Summer Institute experiences with their provincial curricula. There will be broader linkages to provincial cross-curricular competencies and the Six Cs.
While on the tour, a military expert will provide in-depth historical content at each stop on the itinerary. This historical perspective will introduce themes, Historical Thinking Concepts, and commemorative work that educators can integrate into their own teaching practices.
